In 2011, the Community Foundation of DeKalb County and United Way of DeKalb County jointly funded research to create a community profile. The profile was prepared by The Community Research Institute at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) and the Mike Downs Center at IPFW.
The profile updates previous community assessments conducted in 1996, 2001, and 2006. The 2011 Community Profile varies slightly from the previous assessments in that it reflects only data collected from existing sources. Previous assessments included data collected from existing sources and a random community survey.
The Community Profile documents and analyzes DeKalb County’s current demographic, educational, economic, health and safety, workplace and housing information. When appropriate, DeKalb County data are compared to that of the state and to the nation.
We hope that nonprofit organizations, donors, businesses, and government entities find the Community Profile helpful to evaluate past programs, inform community conversations, identify trends that may need encouragement or revisions, and plan for the future.
